Of the 28 Conservatory of Music musicians who competed in the preliminary round of the 2017 Lynn Concerto Competition Oct. 6-7, ten advance to the final round Oct. 8. The winners are trombonist Tamas Markovics, pianist Sergei Skobin, cellist Khosiyathkhan Khusanova, cellist Michael Puryear and the alternate is violist Camille Ripple. Kristine Mezines won the Collaborative Piano Award.
The jury consisted of distinguished guest artists Scott Hartman (trombone, Yale University), Raymond Gniewek (violin, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra) and Marina Lomazov (piano, University of South Carolina).
The winners will perform as soloists with the Lynn Philharmonia, Guillermo Figueroa conducting, in the Wold Performing Arts Center Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 12 at 4 p.m.
