Attend 2013 Diversity Summit Nov. 8

The South Florida Diversity Alliance (SFDA) is presenting the 2013 Diversity Summit from 8:30 a.m.– 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, in the Miniaci Theatre and Alvin Sherman Library at Nova Southeastern’s main campus in Davie. The summit will bring students, educators and community leaders together to discuss issues including peace education and activism, politics and education for social change, human rights and more.

The summit, sponsored by SFDA, NSU, Lynn University, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University and Broward County Schools, will feature more than 25 workshops.

“This year’s theme is “Stepping Out, Stepping Up.”  Morayma James, coordinator of multicultural affairs at Lynn University, helped organize this conference and several Lynn staff members from the Division of Student Life, will be presenting six of the 27 sessions on such topics as sexual orientation, social justice, diversity, multiculturalism, and a session on political ideology and technology will be presented by Lynn students and a faculty member.

“This year’s theme focuses on those who step out and speak up courageously when they see injustices in their communities,” says James. “Our mission is to unite our community and promote respect, unity and social change. Through the different interactive sessions, we hope to empower current and emerging leaders to learn and act together to promote a more diverse and inclusive South Florida community.”

The cost to attend the summit is $30 and is free for students and employees from sponsoring organizations. To register, please visit http://www.southfloridadiversityalliance.org. For questions, please email sfda@nova.eduLynn.
