Peace activist Bishop Gumbleton to speak Oct. 30

The Office of Campus Ministry is presenting a special guest speaker, Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton, on Sunday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. in the AG.  Bishop Gumbleton is a leading voice in peace, justice, and civil rights, founder of Pax Christi USA, founder of Bread for the World and recipient of over 50 awards in the cause of peace and justice.

Bishop Gumbleton will also be the celebrant of the 7 p.m. Mass in Landgren Chapel.

Bishop Thomas J. Gumbleton, Auxillary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Detroit, has traveled throughout the world calling for an end to war and the abolition of nuclear weapons. He has spoken out courageously on behalf of the victims of sexual abuse in the church, and has advocated for the full participation and the rights of women and homosexuals in the Catholic Church. He has met with victims of wars around the world, and led a delegation to visit the American hostages in Iran in 1979. He is the recipient of over 50 awards for his efforts in the area of peace and justice.  His homilies are read by thousands each week in the National Catholic Reporter.  He continues to serve as a priest and bishop, and travel the world speaking and working on the behalf of victims of war, violence, and prejudice.
