Terence McCorry, director of spiritual and religious life, attended the Chautauqua Institute’s Next Great Generation conference in Chautauqua N.Y. this summer. While there, he surprised Lynn conservatory trumpet player Ricardo Chinchilla and tuba player Jose Guimaraes, Jr. backstage after their season opening concert. Both students are members of Chautauqua’s Summer Music School Festival Orchestra. McCorry had heard from Conservatory Dean Jon Robertson that conservatory students had attended Chautauqua in the past, so upon arriving he attended the opening performance and there they were playing in the orchestra. The students also performed
at the annual Fourth of July Celebration.
The Next Great Generation conference
included a week of lectures and presentations exploring the values, work and stories of socially conscious young adult leaders who are making advancements in technology, media and conservation as well as interfaith leaders who “looked into the future to examine what religion will be like in the coming years for 25 percent of the world’s population now under the age of 25.”
