The Knights Unite - Day of Caring was developed to carry on the very important work that was started by 12 students and two faculty members who took part in the Journey of Hope to Haiti in January 2010.  The Haiti earthquake devastated a country and left an indelible mark on Lynn University. The day of service and remembrance was established to honor the lives of Stephanie Crispinelli, Britney Gengel, Christine Gianacaci, Courtney Hayes, Dr. Richard Bruno, and Dr. Patrick Hartwick. 
This year, the day of service expands to a full week of activities. Register here for the projects below.

Monday, Jan. 7

Canned food drive – bring cans of food to Perper Plaza to donate to the Palm Beach County Food Bank. 
Seagull Industries – sort clothes for a thrift shop in the morning at Forest Hill and Jog roads (transportation will be provided) 25 people

Tuesday, Jan.8
Beach Clean-Up (as many as want to go) – transportation will be provided. 
Make sandwiches for Palm Beach County after-school program.  15 people needed.  Sandwiches will be made in the cafeteria from 10 – 11 a.m.

Wednesday, Jan. 9
Habitat for Humanity (Greenacres) – 25 people.  Transportation will be provided, and the bus will leave at 9 a.m.  Bring your own lunch and refreshments; you must wear closed toed shoes for this event.  You will not be allowed on the bus wearing sandals. (5 openings left)

Thursday, Jan. 10 
Paint Your Heart Out – Location TBD.  Paint the exterior of one or two homes.  Transportation will be provided, and the bus will leave at 9 a.m.  Bring your own lunch and refreshments; you must wear closed toed shoes for this event.  You will not be allowed on the bus wearing sandals. 

Friday, Jan. 11
Hurricane Sandy Relief donations – donations collected in Perper Plaza to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy.  All donated items will go to the United Way of Monmouth County, N.J.   The following is a current list of items needed: gallon-sized ziplock bags for toiletry items, winter jackets – all sizes, batteries, work gloves, gift cards from Home Depot or Lowe’s, diapers, baby wipes, laundry detergent and cleaning supplies.

 NEW - Food For The Poor school in Chinandega, Nicaragua - Fundraising event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Perper Plaza. Tax-deductible checks can be made payable to “Food For The Poor.” Write on the check's memo line "SC 77575" to ensure proper tracking.

Saturday, Jan. 12
Grassy Waters Preserve – plant 3- and 5-gallon plants (including Cypress trees and native greens) along the water’s edge and in wet muddy areas.  Closed-toed shoes is a requirement for this project.  Transportation will be provided.  The service project will be from 8:30 a.m. –noon. 
Feeding Children Everywhere – package 40,000 meals in the Green Center starting at 11 a.m. for orphanages in Haiti. To participate in this event, a $2 donation (more if you like) must be made at the door. There is no limit to the number of participants.

o NEW-The Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE) Run.  Participants will run 14 miles in honor of the 14 Journey of Hope students and professors. The run will start at 10 a.m. from the Remembrance Plaza.  Sponsorships of $1/mile are invited to support Haiti Orphan Project
o NEW- The Miracle League / Knights Unite Day of Caring 3rd Annual Spring Training Game - Join the Miracle League, a special baseball league for children with physical, mental and developmental challenges, to help run a game with the children at Miracle Field in Delray Beach. 11 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.  Set-up begins at 11 a.m.; game time is noon; cleanup is at 2 p.m. For those students not in The Miracle League J-Term class, a minimum $25 donation to The Miracle League of Delray Beach is requested. Ecumenical Service at 4 p.m. in the AG – Everyone is invited.

Moment of Silence at 4:53 p.m. in the Remembrance Plaza – Everyone is invited.

Please wear your Knights Unite t-shirt when participating in a service project (Knights Unite Day of Caring t-shirts will be distributed to the first-year students during January Term.)  The t-shirts are the same as last year, so please wear it if you have one. If you need a new shirt, please stop by Student Life starting Jan. 3.
